New Year’s Resolution Tips – Getting back into the gym in Alexandria or Mascot

If one of your New Year’s Resolutions is to get back into the gym in Alexandria or Mascot, then congratulations! You might have stopped exercising or training because of an injury (or lack of enthusiasm) but now you’re all geared up for the New Year.

However, if an injury or illness is the cause of your absenteeism, then it’s best to check with your GP or our sports physio in Alexandria or Mascot for a final go-ahead.

So if you’re ready to hit the gym, here are three tips that should make it a slam dunk!

1.    Don’t be disappointed

Most athletes, whether at the elite level, weekend warriors or occasional enthusiasts try to start back at the same level they left off. This won’t work because your fitness level has decreased. So if you’ve suffered an injury or illness then ask your GP or our sports physio in Alexandria or Mascot for their advice, otherwise, start at 50% of your previous level.

2.    Don’t rush the levels

You won’t be able to reach the same level as when you stopped training in a week. A good rule of thumb is that it takes at least as long as your period of absenteeism to get back to the same level. So if you haven’t been to the gym in Alexandria or Mascot for 6 months, that’s how long it will take to get back into shape.

3.    Don’t ignore your body

Getting back into the gym in Alexandria or Mascot can result in a few aches and pains but if you do too much too quickly you can injure yourself again. So listen to your body and if in doubt, have a chat with our sports physio in Mascot or Alexandria just to be on the safe side. It’s one thing to push yourself to get back into shape but not at the expense of your health.
